Magic Bullet

I have one, magic bullet. Okay, two, if you count Cherrios. When Jude cries inconsolably and I am driving, my only option is to belt "I love you a bushel and a peck" at the top of my lungs. Driving home from Layton on Sunday, I sang that song for an hour, which may leave you to wonder if you'd rather hear Jude scream for an hour or me sing "I love you a bushel and a peck" for an hour. Over and over. Not to mention that I have an irresitable urge to sing the second verse with a fabulous (terrible!), hick accent. You know, the part where is says, "beats me all to heck how I'll ever tend the farm..ever tend the farm when I want to keep my arms about Jude!" Mike loves that part (insert me shaking my head "no"). I've tried to make other songs the magic bullet, songs like "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," or "You are my Sunshine." But no. Screaming ensures unless I am singing the dulcet tones of "I love you a bushel and a peck." Why, universe?

Excellent. Meesha's baby will quiet down for this Mexican lullaby about tamales. It feels like a holy thing has happened when it works. (Which it does a grand 90% of the time.)

I love thinking of you driving down the road, singing your hick-y heart out. And hey, at least you've got some magic. Some babies are bullet-less.

Okay this is spooky. Elizabeth goes nuts when i sing that song. It's her favorite by far. Not quite a magic bullet but I can tell she just LOVES it. What is it about that song?

Why do some little ones love the car and fall asleep and others scream? Joseph was a screamer, and I had no magic bullets. For 18 months I tried to stay out of the car!

My grandma used to sing it to us. I never knew it had a second verse.
